Mrs. Clara Daniel Williams, daughter of the late John and Shadie Graham Daniel was born in Saluda County, SC on September 1, 1931. She peacefully departed this earthly life on October 18, 2018 at the Saluda Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center, Saluda, SC.
She received her secondary education and diploma from Rosenwald School of Saluda, SC. Always known as the lifelong learner, later in life, she briefly attended Piedmont Technical College here she enrolled in continuing education courses and received certificates in Human Services. At an early age, she joined Penn Creek Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her failing health. She served as the church secretary/clerk, an usher, a choir member, and the Sunday school treasurer. Clara believed in the value of hard work as she was employed by Riverside School as a cook, worked as a seamstress at the Saluda Sewing Mill as a seamstress and eventually retired from Saluda County Department of Social Services as a Human Services Homemaker in 2006/2007. She was known for her love of cooking, hosting fish fries, canning and preserving vegetables and fruits, baking pies and cakes, and making peanut brittle. She often catered weddings, retirement celebrations, anniversary celebrations, and graduation celebrations. During her spare time, she enjoyed quilting, dancing, working in her flower gardens, hosting family and friends and attending basketball games. A huge basketball fan and enthusiast, she spent more than 35 years of supporting basketball teams at Riverside Middle School, Anderson College, Furman University, and College of Charleston. During these games, she was known for creating her own impromtu rhyming cheers and chanting "DEFENSE" alongside her brother, Charlie Sam
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by brothers, Robert, Edinburgh, James, Marshall, Seymore, Gabriel, and sisters Anna, Amy, Sue, Chrissa, Hattie "Polly", and the Farlow children. Clara will be dearly missed by her family, friends and all who knew and loved her. She leaves to cherish and honor her memory; her husband of 65 years, Vannie Williams, of the home; sons, Wendell (Deborah) Williams of Saluda, SC; Jerome (Sheila) WIlliams of Saluda, SC; Vannie Williams Jr of Columbia, SC; Jerome (Sheila) Williams of Saluda, SC; Vannie Williams Jr of Columbia, SC ; Randall (Ericka) Williams of North Augusta, SC; daughters, Sharon (Harry) Holloway of Saluda, SC; Shadie (Michael) Hall of North Augusta, SC; one brother, Charlie S. Daniel of Saluda, SC; brother in laws, Clarence (Sarah) Williams, Capitol Heights, MD; Richard Buggs, Saluda, SC; Oscar (Narlene) Stevens Saluda, SC; Jonathan (Veronica) Stevens, Blythewood, SC; sisters in laws, Lanie Mac (Curtis) Lorick, Saluda, SC; Dusker (Robert) King, Milledgeville, GA; and Ida Williams, Washington, DC; 22 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends.
The family will meet their friends from 1:00 to 7:00 PM at the Logan Funeral Chapel - 203 North Bouknight Ferry Road in Saluda, SC.
