Deacon Howard Jerome Pugh

Howard Jerome Pugh peacefully departed this earthly home to a home in glory on Sunday February 27, 2022, at his residence. Born in Saluda SC to the late Ty Otis and Ella Mae Abney-Pugh on May 24, 1941. His mother preceded him in death when he was three years old and God sent a beautiful angel to love him and be his mother, the late Tommie Mobley-Pugh.  He was a graduate of Riverside High School in Saluda SC class of 1959; he went into the workforce immediately after high school and began demonstrating the incredible work ethic that he learned from his parents. He was tall, slim, and a hot head, but in 1961 he met the love of his life Viola Burton, in 1964 they were united and was blessed with four children, this was when he became to be a provider, father, and husband then he was blessed with a inheritance from his father in-law with this he built a home on Burton Road in 1968.

  Howard was employed at Owens Corning Fiber Glass for thirty-four years as a mechanical technician where he retired in 2002 however after four years of retirement, he took on a project at SRP Federal Credit Union after ten years he finally retired.  As a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church at a early age he worked to serve as a Sunday School Teacher for over twenty years where he would plan trips in the summer for the young members to Carowinds and Six Flags, Christmas Fruits, Plays, and had a great teaching staff, he served as a Deacon for almost forty years during those years he made Chairman of the Deacon Board. Howard loved to work with his hand, working on his cars, in his garden, on his lawn, cows, tractor supplies, and was caretaker for his wife where he became a master at cleaning the kitchen and shared lots of wisdom to his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death other than his parents were five brothers, Otis, Leon, John, James and Leonard Pugh. 

He is survived by his wife of fifty seven plus years Reverend Viola Burton-Pugh of the home, one daughter, Machela  (Reverend Doctor Robert) Knox of North Augusta, SC, his sons, Dewayne Pugh (April), Toby Pugh (Chanda) of Charlotte, NC, Ivan Pugh (Katina) of Anderson, SC, eight grandchildren, Xavier Pugh, Latavia Pugh, Britney Martin (Marques) Jayland Pugh, Rylee Knox, and Robby Knox, six great grandchildren one brother Carl Douglas Pugh (Shirley) of Saluda, SC, sister, Edith Pugh of Columbia, SC, two brothers in-law Elijah  Burton, Claude Burton (Jenny) both of Johnston, SC, sisters in-law Annie Bell Grant, Maggie Burton, Cherry Burton, all of Johnston, SC, a host of nieces, nephews other relative and friends.
