Edward Charles Brent was born on June 26, 1954, in Crystal Springs, Mississippi to the late Shelby Brent and the late Mary Martha Jane Dixion. Edward was the fourth child of seven siblings, one who preceded him in death: (Delorse Shannon).
At an early age, Edward "Charles" Brent moved to Detroit, MI, with his family. In 1970, at the early age of 17, Edward left home to join the military. He served 8 years in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division first 505 Infantry stationed in Fort Bragg, NC. During his military career, he served various special duties, including tours in Panama. While serving in the military, he met his wife Leora Richardson of 47 years. Edward and Leora would go on to have two sons, Travis and Clinton.
In 1978, Edward and his wife left the military and moved to West Columbia, SC. Edward attended Midlands Technical College in Columbia, SC, where he studied Criminal Justice. Edward resided in Saluda, SC for 35 years and later moved to Lexinghiton, SC. He retired from Shaw Industries in Aiken, SC in 2014. He was a strong prayer warrior who loved the Lord. Edward was very outspoken and observant.
He enjoyed fishing, traveling, watching movies, keeping up with current events, going to family gatherings, singing his favorite song (Baby, I'm For Real) to his wife. He was a very humble man who encouraged the joys of life. He loved visiting his family and friends in Detriot, and vacationing at different beaches. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren playing in the backyard and taking them on family vacations. Edward lived for his family and his grandchildren.
On Saturday, May 20, 2023, God decided that Edward's earthly life was fulfilled, and therefore summoned his spirit back to Him. He transitioned at home after checking on both of his sons and grandkids.
He leaves to cherish loving memories; his wife Leora Richardson Brent of Lexington, SC, 2 sons, Travis (Julia) Brent of Lexington, SC and Clinton (Shavonne) Brent of Rock Hill, SC; seven grandchildren Sierra Brent (Greenwood, SC), late Clinton Brent Jr., Jaelon Brent (Saluda, SC), Summer Brent (Rock Hill, SC), Juliana Brent (Columbia, SC), Nicolas Brent (Rock Hill, SC) and Travis Brent Jr. (Columbia, SC); five sisters, Loreen (late Joseph) Thomas, Gloria Brent, Rose Sneads, Sharon Perry, late Delorse Shannon of Detroit, MI, and one brother Lonzie (late Rose) Jackson Jr. of Metairie, LA; six sisters-in-laws, Willie Mae Caldwell of Ninety Six, SC, Johnnie Mae (late Willie) Logan of Edgefield, SC, Sandra (late Willie) Childs of Ninety Six, SC, Irene Morris of Saluda, SC, Tracey Richardson of Upper Marlboro, MD, and Mattie Richardson of Raleigh, NC; three brothers-in-laws, Wiley Richardson of Upper Marlboro, MD, Walter Perry of Detroit, MI, and Malchom Caldwell of Ninety Six; two lifelong friends, Fred Boyd and Henry Mitchell. Close friends Richard Buggs, Robert Hood, Loverne Etherege, Diana Jones, Brenda Stevens Brunson and family, Robin Butler, and his baby girl, Kenyatta "Key Key" Spencer. He leaves behind love for many relatives, friends, and neighbors from Saluda, SC and Lexington, SC. He had many nieces and nephews that he loved and cherished like his grandchildren.
