Mrs. Georgia Faye (Abney) Hawkins was born on March 8, 1947, in Saluda, South Carolina, to the late James Thomas Abney and Willie Mae Coleman Abney; She received her education in the public schools of Saluda County and was a proud graduate of Riverside High School, Class of 1966; She was last employed at the Burton Center in Edgefield, South Carolina. Georgia Faye was a faithful and devoted member of Wateree African Methodist Episcopal Church, where she actively nurtured her spiritual life and served with unwavering dedication.
On April 8, 1967, she was united in holy matrimony to Robert Hawkins, Sr. This loving union was blessed with three children.On Friday; March 27, 2026, Georgia Faye peacefully transitioned from labor to reward at Jessie Frank Hawkins Nursing Home in Newberry, South Carolina;
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers: her twin brother, Ray Anderson Abney; James Henry Abney; Abraham Abney; and Melvin Abney; a sister Katherine Abney; .
Georgia Faye leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will forever live in the hearts of those who knew her. She is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, Robert Hawkins, Sr., of Saluda, South Carolina; her loving daughter, Aretha Faye Etheredge (James Henry) of Saluda, South Carolina; and her two sons, Robert Hawkins, Jr. (Joyce) of Saluda, South Carolina, and Manuel Garcia Hawkins (Mirna) of Edcouch, Texas.She also leaves to cherish her memory nine grandchildren: Telsic Etheredge, Antonio Hawkins, Tenerio Hawkins, Cerayia Etheredge, Shaniece Etheredge, Keiante Etheredge, Zy’Asia Hawkins, Alyssa Henley, and Betty Cruz; along with 30 great-grandchildren.She is further survived by a loving nephew, James M. Abney, and a niece, Alondrea T. Abney, both of Saluda, South Carolina; her loving sisters, Andrena Gallman, Susan Abney, and Willie Pearl Abney, all of Saluda, South Carolina; one brother, Calvin Abney of Saluda, South Carolina; Two Godsons, John Sadler of Rock Hill, S.C. and Christopher Quattlebaum of Saluda. S.C.; four sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; thirteen nieces; twelve nephews; and a host of cousins, extended family, and dear friends who will forever treasure her memory.
