Helen Ruth Stevens-Norris Obituary

In Loving Memory of
Helen Ruth Norris
September 25, 1937 – June 26, 2026

With love and gratitude for a life well lived, we celebrate the life of Helen Ruth Norris, who peacefully departed this life on the morning of June 26, 2026, at the age of 88.

Born on September 25, 1937, Helen lived a life defined by unwavering faith, quiet strength, and unconditional love. A devoted Christian, she lived according to her beliefs, demonstrating kindness, resilience, and compassion to everyone she encountered. She was known for her strong will, independent spirit, and steadfast character—qualities that earned the respect and admiration of all who knew her.

Helen was a talented seamstress who took great pride in her work. Through her skillful hands and creative spirit, she expressed her care for others and left behind treasured memories stitched with love.

Above all, Helen was a devoted sister, aunt, and faithful friend. She cherished her family deeply and remained a source of love, wisdom, and encouragement throughout her life.

Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elliot Norris; her parents, Fred Stevens and Georgia Anna Stevens; her brother, Willie Cal Stevens; her sister, Anna Margret Gibson; her brother-in-law, Solomon Barnes; her niece, Darlene Barnes-Benjamin; and her sisters-in-law, Waxie Wright and Orabell Williams.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory her loving sister, Ruby Louise Barnes; her beloved nephew, Kelvin Andre Barnes, who was like a son to her; her devoted great-nieces, Darkia Sharena Barnes and Xaonna Lindsey Barnes, who were like grandchildren to her and brought her immeasurable love and joy; and her great-nephew, Garricus Williams, along with his children, Tashianna Zy'kia Bodley and Nizaih Kevon Williams.

The family also wishes to acknowledge Sharon Gilliam, whose bond with Helen was one of unwavering love. Helen often said Sharon was "the daughter she never birthed."

She is also lovingly remembered by her sister-in-law, Clara Lurk, as well as her nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her love and presence.

While our hearts mourn her absence, we rejoice in knowing that Helen's journey continues in the presence of her Lord and Savior. Her life was a testimony of faith, resilience, and enduring love. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in our hearts. May we honor her memory by carrying forward the kindness, strength, and faith that she so beautifully exemplified.

"The Lord bless you and keep you;

the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you;

the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace."

— Numbers 6:24–26 (NIV)
