Lafayette Matthews born in Saluda County on April 26, 1945, a son of the late George F. Matthews and Annie Mae Abney- Matthews, He entered into his Heavenly Home on July 10, 2023, to be with his Heavenly Father Jesus Christ. He attended the public schools in Saluda County. "Tac" as he was called by his family and friends would always be looking for ways of having fun like swimming in the river, fishing and playing ball. At the age of eighteen he moved to Florida where he lived for many years. and returned home after the passing of his Mother.
In addition of his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter Pamela Diane Rosser-Jones, granddaughter Kawana Nicole Rosser, and two sisters.
Lafayette leaves to cherish his loving memories, six brothers, George W. Matthews of Mt. Rainer, Md. Jessie Coleman ( Wilhemenia), Nathanel S. Matthews (Lillie Ruth), Bennie K. Matthews, Ronnie Matthews and John Oscar Matthews all of Saluda, SC, seven sisters, Edna Mae Coleman and Ella Marie Lindsay both of Washington DC, Genell Attaway of Missouri City, Tx, Lambert Kinard (Albert) of Saluda, SC, Tommie Matthews-Garrett of Irmo, SC, Alice Cannon of Leesville, SC, and Vanessa Matthews of Newberry, SC. special friends from Wimauma, Florida, James Brown (Retha), Andere Brown, Shirley Brown, Dellarine Anderson, Jackie Brown, Carol Brown, Angela Brown, Wesley Brown, Larry Brown, and Jerry Oberry. and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
