Lavern Rhodes born in Martin, SC on September 23, 1960, a daughter of the late Fred (Annie Ruth) Rhodes and Reather Mae Simmons. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to many. She was called to enter her Heavenly Home on August 21,2022 at the age of 61 after a long and hard-fought battle with her health. She grew up in a large loving family of brothers, George Rhodes, Larry Hurst, John Otis Padgett, and a sister, Mary Jane Marshall. 

After graduating from Barnwell High School Lavern went on to study accounting at Denmark Technical college where she obtained her Associate Degree. Later she worked at the Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) where she worked for several years. She had a passion for cooking, she was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and playing spades.   

She was preceded in death by her son, Jerome D. Rhodes, her brother, Phillip Hurst and sisters, Ellender Gibson, Robin Terry Graham, Rosa Mae Harris, Maude D. Padgett, and Judy Simmons, a grandson, Kaison D. Butler. 

Lavern leaves to cherish her loving memories a son, Henry Rhodes, daughter Ronda (Damon) Glover, Camesha (Mitchell,III) Burrell, Nicole Rhodes, and Lillian Rhodes, thirteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren, loving nieces, nephew, aunts, uncles, relatives and many friends.

We are eternally grateful to all of Mother's caregivers, doctors, and the incredible people who were essential in her time of need. A special thank you is extended to Andra Butler, Earlene Williams, Willie (Geneva) Campbell, Rebecca Etheredge and the late Willie M Etheredge, the late Willie and Dorothy Crouch, and the late Dorothy Gaines.
