Lucile Lurk-Pope Obituary

Lucile Lorick Lurk-Pope born on August 6, 1932, a daughter of the late Henry and Margaret Springs-Lorick entered into her Heavenly Home on March 28, 2023 in Greenwood, SC at Self Regional Healthcare. She was the third eldest of nine siblings. She was baptized at an early age and became a member of Rock Hill Baptist Church. After graduating from high school Lucile met James Pope. The couple married and later moved to Paterson, New Jersey where she lived most of her adult life. Lucile was an amazing wife and mother. She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh.

She worked at various companies before becoming a Light Bulb Assembler technician at Jewel Elect in Clifton, New Jersey. She remained at Jewel Elect for 32 years before retiring in 1993. Upon retiring, Lucile spent her time attending Canaan Baptist Church in Paterson where she was on the Flower Committee. She was an avid retail shopper and loved hunting for bargains at garage sales. Lucile was one of the original "shop-a-holics."

"Cile," as she was affectionately called by everyone who knew and loved her, was the "charm" of the family. She loved and adored spending time around them. "Cile" always wanted to make you find humor and laughter in your life. She frequently told the story of how she could banter with her co-workers and they would all find humor and laugh but if another coworker did the same thing, it wouldn't be funny.

Upon relocating to her birth home in Saluda, SC, she became an active member of Rock Hill Baptist Church where she was treasurer for the Pulpit Aides. She enjoyed attending church services' and participating in all the festivities. During her leisure time, Lucile found pleasure and enjoyment baking the "best" sweet potato pies and potato salad for her many church functions.

She was known for her famous exercise "dance" which she would perform with her family and friends just to show off her athletic ability at her age. Lucile loved her volunteer work where she assisted in delivering daily meals to the sick and elderly for many years.

She was blessed with a "green thumb" and took pride in caring for her outdoor and indoor plants. Her favorite flower was the red geranium which she faithfully planted every year. Cile was an amazing woman who was also blessed with the grace of longevity and leaves behind golden footprints.

Lucile was preceded in death by baby daughter, Margaret-Ann; brothers Henry Bell, Curtis, and Jessie Lorick and sister Annie Ruth Graham.

Cherishing her memories: she leaves her caring and loving husband James; daughter, Brenda Pope-Branch (Reggie) of Atlanta, GA, son, James II, (Michelle) of Paterson, NJ., daughter, Angel Lynn Pooler (Draton) of Short Hills, NJ, brothers, Hardy Lorick of Washington, DC, Johnnie Lee Lorick (Clara) of  Greensboro, NC., and Wilbert Lorick (Grace) of Johnston, SC., sister Mable Crouch (George) of Saluda, SC., grandson, Tracy S Short (Ebony) ,three grand-daughters, Taea T.
