Patricia Melvin

Patricia A. Thomas-Melvin, born in Norfolk, Va., on February 17, 1950, a daughter of the late Earnest M. Thomas and Grace Coley-Thomas. She departed this Earthly life to enter into her Heavenly Home on March 4, 2023, at the Saluda Nursing Center with her hand and heart held by her daughter Janice. 

Patricia was a member of Mt. Hermon Baptish Church at an early age. She graduated from Maury High School in 1968 and went on to further her education at Central Carolina College in Sumter, SC as well as the University of Minnesota at Duluth. Throughout her life she served the community with love and loyalty through multiple roles, including The American Red Cross, Community People's Action for Change, Employment Office work, and ultimately Tri-County Ministries in Charleston, South Carolina. Patricia loved to sing and dance. She also loved for her family to have a good time. 

Her infectious spirit blessed everyone throughout her beautiful life regardless of her own unbearable hardships including more than one heartbreaking miscarriage. Patricia's wit and humor were always unmatchable. Her true love and care were for all who met her. We, the family, are forever grateful for her close friends that uplifted this true angel throughout her life. Our sincere thanks and our prayers go out to all of you as we celebrate the beginning of this wonderful woman's eternal rest.

Patricia is survived by her beloved grandchildren Dominique Lovejoy, Elizabeth Horne, and Terrance R. Lovejoy. She is also survived by daughters Janice Lovejoy-Horne (Benjamin) and Vanessa Melvin, sons Terrance E. Lovejoy (Christine) and David Melvin, her wonderful sisters and brothers, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
