Peter James Griffin

Peter James Griffin born in Saluda County, SC on March 2, 1930, a son of the late Elijah and Mamie Zee Etheredge-Griffin he was a second of seven children, he was beaconed to his Heavenly Home on Wednesday, October 26, 2022. He accepted Christ as his savior at an early age, a member of Wateree AME Church where he served faithfully as a Sunday School Teacher and Trustee, He placed the Lord first in all of his accomplishments.

He was educated in the public school system and graduated from Rosenwald High School in Saluda; SC. attended a technical school and received a degree in automotive technology, served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1950-1956, returning home to serve his community as President of the Saluda Branch of the N.A.A.C.P., Worshipful Master of Peerless Lodge # 214, 1987 Textile Citizen of the Year, 2016 SC Farm City Citizen of the Year, retired from Milliken and Company as an electrician after twenty three years, while still employed he was a enthusiastically skilled farmer. He was knowledgeable, wise, strong and courageous man. His legacy will be morals, strength and love he shared with family and friends. 

Preceding him in Glory other than his parents are. sisters, Mamie Jones and Ezzeter Griffin, brothers Richard and Raymond Griffin. He leaves to fondly cherish his memories a loving wife, Clara Spearman-Griffin of the home devoted children, Shirley (Winston) Saunders-Hall of Decatur, Ga., Belinda (William) Griffin-White of Graniteville, SC, James (Ann) Griffin of Saluda, SC, Alfred (Andrea) Griffin of Lexington, SC, Marvin (Mia) Griffin of Swansea, IL, brothers, Earl Griffin of Florisant IL, sisters, Eliza Griffin of Washington, DC, siters in-law Nina Bookman, Alberta Boyd, Jean Griffin, Christina Hunter, Mary Powell and  Dorothy Wheeler, sixteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, three great grand grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends
