Rodney Minick Obituary

Rodney Michael Minick,72, born in Newberry County Memorial Hospital, in Newberry, SC, on January 13, 1952, a son of the late Corburn Minick and the late Rebecca (Becky) Wheeler Minick, he passed peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on, July 7, 2024, at an early age, Rodney joined Red Bank Baptist Church in Saluda, SC, where he was in the RA's. He also was an Eagle Scout.

While in High School he drove a school bus and worked for Talmadge Knight at Knight Industries where they became lifelong friends, after he graduated from High School in 1970, Rodney received a degree in Automotive Body from Midlands Technical College, he then worked for Bob Richards Chevrolet in Augusta, Ga and returned home in 1975 where he started his own automotive paint and body shop in the back yard of his father's home which was known as Saluda Body Shop Inc. In a few short years he moved to its present location on Columbia Hwy. Rodney became an entrepreneur as he started and owned Minick's Wrecker Service which offers Light, Medium and Heavy Duty towing since the late 1970's he also worked for Bledsoe Auto Sales in Johnston, SC, between working in Augusta and before starting his own businesses. In 2001 he acquired Saluda Motor Lines Inc. with a contract hauling Mail for the United States Postal Service, a Volunteer for Saluda Nursing Center (EMS) 1975 to 1985 he also was a volunteer with the Saluda County Coroner's office for 35 years.

His hobbies included but was not limited to riding motorcycles, camping, boating, skiing, racing go-karts enjoying the need for speed with his 1968 Plymouth GTX with 440 Super Commando Engine, attending car shows, tow shows and also taking vacation. His favorite meal of the day was breakfast, no matter what time of the day it was he was going to have it as his first meal, and he loved "Banana Pudding" known for helping others in many ways and his infectious smile.

He leaves behind many precious memories to his wife, Traci Michelle Minick of the home, son Jody Minick (Angie Gibson) of Saluda, daughter Julie Minick-Lawson (the late Gary Quillen Lawson) of Saluda, stepson Joseph Upchurch (Tiphani) of Riverview, Fla., grandchildren, Samantha, Emma and Tanner Minick, and Noah Gibson all of Saluda, brother Terry Minick (Linda) of Saluda, SC, niece Ginger Minick Griffin (Michael) of Saluda, SC, great nephew Trent Griffin of Saluda, great niece Harper Griffin of Saluda SC, numerous  aunts, uncles, and extended family, lifelong friend and brother, Richard Anthony Logan, work family Shawn Farrow, Andre Butler, JD Rowe, Jason Rogers, Jackson Rogers, Sekou Paige, David (Dog) Walker and Phillip (Slick) Gibson. also, his special pets Precious (Miniature Chihuahua) and Gizmo (Chinese Crested Grand Puppy) and other sorrowing family and friends.
