Mr. Tommy Lee Banks Son of the late Carrie Lee Chappell Coleman and late Leroy Banks was born in Gainesville, Florida on March 1, 1953. He peacefully departed this life on Saturday May 25, 2019, in the Self Regional Hospital. At a very young age he joined the First Baptist Church where he accepted the Lord as his savior. Tommy received his education in the public schools of Gainesville, FL. While attending school, he was an outstanding football and basketball player. He attended the University of Florida as a Florida Gator. "TomCat" as he was affectionately called, Will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was very well known no matter where he went. TomCat retired as a construction worker, but he was a man of many skills. He held other jobs such as a Brick Mason, EMS, Electrician, Mechanic, Embalmer's assistant, and a great storyteller. TomCat loved people, especially children, that was something he was very passionate about.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by siblings, Charles Welcome, Jessie L. Rosser, Willie James Coleman, Roosevelt Coleman, and Shirley Coleman Abney. Tommy is survived by his 2 sons, Travis Banks of Saluda, SC, Tommy Banks Jr (1 grandaughter and 2 grandsons) of Gainesville, FL; daughter Nena Banks (grandson Jeremiah P. Mathews) of Florence, SC; step-son Rashod Daniels of Greenwood, SC; 3 step-daughters Kiome Booker of Greenville, SC, Amanda Williams (God-granddaughter Layla Dowdy) of Greenwood, SC, Vonda Lott Baker (2 granddaughter) of Florence, SC; Fiancé Virginia D. Booker of Greenwood, SC; 2 sisters Lola Simmons of Saluda, SC and Betty Hudson of Atlanta, GA; aunt Sophie Thompson of Washington, DC; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives and sorrowing friends.
Memorial service will be Friday May 31 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church at 3pm, Reverend Richard Jackson, Pastor,
